The AP-LS Student Committee will be awarding eleven (11) student presentation awards at the 2024 AP-LS Conference, totaling $1,925. These awards include:
Eligibility:
Eligible students must be first author on a paper, abbreviated paper ("data blitz"), or poster being presented at the 2025 AP-LS conference. Individuals must be current Student Affiliates of the American Psychology-Law Society at the time of submission and award. This includes both undergraduate and graduate student affiliates. Additionally, all awarded students must attend the 2025 AP-LS Annual Conference. In the event that the presenter of a chosen submission is unable to attend the conference, the award will be given to the presentation with the next highest score.ApplicationThe application includes the following components, which must be submitted by Friday, February 28th at 11:59pm CST. Late or incomplete submissions will not be considered for the award.
Evaluation:
Reviews will be based solely on the submitted materials. All submissions will be anonymously reviewed by at least two (2) AP-LS Student Committee Officers. The submitted materials will be scored on the following criteria: appropriateness and completeness of the information provided, contribution to the field, and presentation organization and design. Reviews will be based on a ten-point rating scale of 1-2 (poor), 3-4 (fair), 5-6 (average), 7-8 (outstanding), and 9-10 (exceptional) on each criterion, with a resulting score between 20 and 200 points.
Paper submissions will be evaluated based on the above criteria in addition to a review of the video submission. Video submissions will be evaluated on knowledgeable, enthusiasm, organization and practice, use of filler words, and time using the same ten-point scale discussed above with a resulting score between 25 and 250 points for paper presentation submissions.AwardAward decisions will be announced prior to the 2025 AP-LS Annual Conference by the AP-LS Student Committee. Awarded students will be contacted by the AP-LS Student Committee directly, and distribution of award funds will be discussed with the awarded student at that time. Award announcements will be distributed on the Committee’s webpage and Facebook page. The awarded presentations may also be displayed on the Committee’s webpage for demonstration purposes, with the permission of the authors.Questions? - Two (2) Outstanding Student Paper awards ($200 each);
- Two (2) Outstanding Student Abbreviated Paper ("Data Blitz") awards ($175 each);
- Two (2) Outstanding Student Poster awards ($150 each); and
- Five (5) specialty awards, which can be posters, abbreviated papers, or papers. These include:
- One (1) Outstanding Student Presentation in Diversity-Related Research award ($175), for research directly related to underrepresented or marginalized populations.
- One (1) Outstanding Student Presentation in Corrections Research award ($175), for research directly related to correctional settings.
- One (1) Outstanding Student Presentation in Legal Research award ($175), for research directly related to the law or legal practice.
- One (1) Outstanding Student Presentation in Novel-Topic Research award ($175), for research on a topic not traditionally studied in law and psychology.
- One (1) Outstanding Student Presentation Using Open Science Practices award ($175), for outstanding research conducted using open science guidelines and practices. - NEW!

- An electronic version of the presentation to be reviewed.
- All submissions must include a PDF of the presentation submitted to [email protected] with your last name and type of presentation as the subject line (e.g., “Smith_paper” and “Jones_poster”). The PDF file should be named the title of your presentation.
- If you are submitting a paper or abbreviated paper presentation, you must also send a video file of your presentation to the email listed above. This may be the full video file or a link to the video file (e.g., Dropbox, Vimeo, or YouTube). This video must be a screen capture of your presentation with a voice over (**see directions below for how to do this). Paper submissions received without the video will not be eligible for the award. The video file should be named the title of your presentation.
- The materials must be anonymous. Do not include presenter or collaborator names and affiliations.

Instructions for Screen Capture/Video
PC Users:
Mac Users:
PC Users:
- Open PowerPoint software with your presentation.
- Select “Slideshow.”
- Select “Record Slideshow.”
- Allow access to your microphone.
- Begin your presentation. When you are done, select “End Slideshow.”
- When the video slide is visible, right click and select “Save Media As.”
- Save your slideshow with the desired title and to your desired location.
- Upload and send using one of the approved formats!
Mac Users:
- Open your presentation.
- Open the Screenshot software by pressing Shift + Command + 5 at the same time or by searching “Screenshot” on your computer. This will pull up a floating menu bar at the bottom of your screen.
- Open the “Options” button. To record your voice, make sure that “Built-in Microphone” is selected.
- Hover your mouse over the options until you find the “Record Entire Screen” option. Once you click this option, your recording will start.
- When you are done recording your presentation, press Shift + Command + 5 again and select the “Stop recording” option. You are now ready to trim your video and submit!
