Welcome to the AP-LS 2021 Virtual Poster Session Homepage!

The AP-LS Student Committee is pleased to invite you to attend the first ever virtual poster conference of the American Psychology-Law Society on March 20th, 2021. The event will feature 200+ poster presentations by students and early career professionals and will be hosted by Virtual Chair in Gather.Town. The Gather.Town platform creates an interactive 2-D virtual environment in which conference attendees can socialize and interact with one another (almost) as if they were at an in-person meeting.

Click here to learn more about the venue and enter the conference space.

Registration for the event is required but will be FREE for all attendees. More information about how to register and prepare for the event will be posted on the site in the coming weeks. Please follow the student committee on Twitter @APLSsc for updates!

We hope that you will join us and look forward to (virtually) seeing you there!

Gather.Town Live Event

  • A Bridging the Gap Panel featuring experts from various disciplines will take place during the first hour of the event. The panel will be conducted using Zoom Webinar on the Gather.town platform. Questions will be submitted using the "Q&A" chat mechanism. Click here to learn more about the panelists.
  • Poster Sessions will feature work by 200+ students and early career professionals. Poster presenters will interact with attendees during one of four poster sessions using the Gather.Town platform. A guide on how posters will work at the event is available here.
  • Social and networking spaces: Gather.Town is a platform designed to replicate some of the social aspects of an in-person conference without the interpersonal dynamics of an in-person meeting. It provides an interface for directing a personalized avatar through a virtual conference space, interacting through live audio and video with other avatars as you approach within a customizable distance from them. Attendees can learn more about how to navigate the event here.

Open Science Framework

To accommodate those who are unable to attend the live Gather.town event we have asked presenters to post their posters to Open Science Framework on the day of the event. These poster's will remain available to view after the live event.

If you have any questions or comments about the virtual poster session, please contact the AP-LS Student Committee at aplsstudents@gmail.com

Eligibility
Individuals must be current Student Affiliates of the American Psychology-Law Society at the time of submission and award. This includes both undergraduate and graduate student affiliates. Additionally, all awarded students must attend the 2021 AP-LS Virtual Poster Session. In the event that the presenter of a chosen submission is unable to attend the conference, the award will be given to the presentation with the next highest score.

Application
A complete application includes (1) a completed survey, (2) a single-page PDF of your poster, and (3) a 3-5 minute video of you presenting your poster to be reviewed.

  1. The application survey can be found here
  2. The single-page PDF of your poster needs to be anonymized prior to its submission. Meaning that we will only review posters that have removed, block off, or otherwise obscured the name(s) of the authors in the submission. This requirement is intended to ensure that the committee can complete a blind review of your poster submission. Again, to reiterate, we will not review any poster that is submitted with the names of the author(s) visible.
  3. You are also required to submit a 3-5 minute video of your poster presentation. This may be be submitted as a video file itself or a link to the video hosted elsewhere online (e.g., Dropbox, Vimeo, or YouTube).
  • The video submission should be recorded as a screen capture of your presentation with a voice over narration. Your face should not appear at anytime in the video. Directions for recording video in this manner for both Mac and PC are included at the bottom of this page. Further, to ensure blind review, we ask that you remove any identifying information from your poster before recording your presentation video. Videos including the names of author(s) will not be reviewed. We request that you keep your video to 3 to 5 minutes in length. Poster submissions received without the video will not be eligible for the award.

Evaluation
Reviews will be based solely on the submitted materials. All submissions will be anonymously reviewed by at least two (2) AP-LS Student Committee Officers. The submitted materials will be scored on the following criteria: appropriateness and completeness of the information provided, contribution to the field, and presentation organization and design. Reviews will be based on a ten-point rating scale of 1-2 (poor), 3-4 (fair), 5-6 (average), 7-8 (outstanding), and 9-10 (exceptional) on each criterion, with a resulting score between 20 and 200 points.

Poster submissions will be evaluated based on the above criteria in addition to a review of the video submission. Video submissions will be evaluated on knowledgeable, enthusiasm, organization and practice, use of filler words, and time using the same ten-point scale discussed above with a resulting score between 25 and 250 points for paper presentation submissions.

You may view the scoring rubric here.

Award
Award decisions will be announced at the 2021 AP-LS Virtual Poster Session by the AP-LS Student Committee. Awarded students will be contacted by the AP-LS Student Committee directly, and distribution of award funds will be discussed with the awarded student around that time. Award announcements will be distributed on the Committee’s webpage and Facebook page. The awarded presentations may also be displayed on the Committee’s webpage for demonstration purposes, with the permission of the authors.
