Picture
Chair | Amanda L. Reed
I’m honored to be serving as the Chair of the Student Committee for the 2017-2018 year. I am a third-year Ph.D. student at John Jay College of Criminal Justice/The Graduate Center, City University of New York. My research on evaluator bias in forensic evaluations is conducted through the Forensic Training Academy at John Jay, under the direction of Dr. Patty Zapf. As Chair, I will be working with the rest of the Student Committee to advance the rich programming and resources offered to student members of AP-LS. If you have any questions about the Student Committee or ideas about programming or resources you’d like to see us offer, please email me at aplsstudents@gmail.com.

Chair-Elect | Katherine Hazen
I am very honored to be serving as the Chair-Elect! I am a 5th year Social Psychology Ph.D./J.D. student at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. I will be finishing my JD in May, 2018 and am preparing to propose my comprehensive exams. My research focuses on authority perceptions of decision making procedures, with particular interest in police officers. This year I will be learning the ropes of being Chair from Amanda, assisting committee members reach their goals, and working closely with Keisha, our Secretary, to provide support and assistance to the Conference Co-Chairs. Next year, as Chair, I plan to focus on how psycho-legal research impacts the community and how to expand the reach! Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions: katherine.hazen@unl.edu.

Clinical Liaison | Amanda Rosinski
I am excited to be serving as the Clinical Liaison for the 2017-2018 AP-LS Student Committee! I am a third year doctoral student at John Jay College of Criminal Justice/The Graduate Center, CUNY, earning my Ph.D. in clinical psychology. My research interests include the impact of cross-cultural factors in forensic assessment. As Clinical Liaison, I am responsible for overseeing student programming relevant to clinically-oriented student members of AP-LS. This year, I will be updating the forensic internship database, organizing clinically-focused webinars, and continuing to develop a database of treatments and assessment tools that have been empirically-validated for use in forensic populations. I will also be assisting with programming at the 2018 AP-LS and APA conferences. If you have any questions or suggestions related to clinical programming, or if you just want to talk about clinical topics, please feel free to contact me at arosinski@jjay.cuny.edu.

Law Liaison | Emma Marshall
I am thrilled to have prevailed in the uncontested, run-off election that was held to fill this position and to now represent you as Law Liaison for the 2017-2018 year. I am a second-year dual J.D./Ph.D. student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and am passionate about both the Law and the process of Liaison-ing. As Law Liaison, my primary responsibility is to work to increase the representation of law students within the AP-LS student section. I hope to facilitate this process by establishing better channels of communication between the AP-LS student committee and law schools around the country; so as to raise awareness about AP-LS among interested law students and to encourage them to engage more directly with our members and in conference-related activities. Ideally, bringing more law students into our community will serve the duel purpose of 1) elevating the voices and concerns of law students in the student committee's policy decision-making processes and 2) creating a better network of support and resources for those students who already represent the "L" in the AP-LS student community. If you are a law student with questions about psychology research or a psychology student with questions about legal research, please contact me at emma.marshall@huskers.unl.edu.

Experimental Liaison | Adele Quigley-Mcbride
I will be taking on the role of Experimental Liaison of the AP-LS Student Committee for the 2017-2018 year. I am currently beginning my third year in the PhD program at Iowa State University. I am working with Dr. Gary Wells and my research relates broadly to the areas of eyewitness identification and forensic testing procedures. As the Experimental Liaison, I will be keeping the grant database updated and working to make webinars available to students. In addition, I would like to make grant opportunities easier to find, and facilitate conversations between junior PhD candidates and more experienced AP-LS members. For example, allowing them to talk with more senior graduate students or Professors with the goal of demystifying the process of getting research funding, get a postdoctoral position, or getting a faculty position in the future. I would also like to try to give student some insight into research positions that are relevant to psychology and law, but are not academic positions, so that students are aware of all the options available to them after graduate school. If you have any suggestions, specific requests, or questions for me, please email me at: adeleqmb@iastate.edu.

Campus Representative Coordinator |  Beverly Henkel
I am honored to be serving as the Campus Representative Coordinator for 2017-2018! I am currently in my third year at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, earning my Psy.D. in Clinical Forensic Psychology, with an emphasis in Law Enforcement. Previously, I served as the Steering Committee Co-Chair for The Chicago School Student Association, overseeing the entire student government body at The Chicago School, hosting social and professional events, and increasing communication between departments. I also started the Mentor Program for my department and served as the Mentor Program Chair for Forensic Ambassadors. This program is designed to increase engagement between programs in the department, and have a guide to help you with the transition to Chicago and graduate school. My job as the Campus Representative Coordinator is to coach and guide the Campus Representatives in their positions and provide support. If you are interested in learning more about the Campus Representative position, finding out if your school has a Campus Representative, or becoming one for your university, send me an email at aplscampusrep@gmail.com and I would be more than happy to assist you or answer any questions.

Communications Officers | Victoria Pietruszka
As the 2017-2018 Communications Officer, I am so excited to begin working with the talented members of the AP-LS Student committee. I am a fourth-year JD/PhD student at Drexel University in the Heilbrun Research Lab. As the Communications Officer, I am responsible for keeping our social media accounts up-to-date, relevant, and engaging. So, if you’re not already following us on our pages on Facebook and Twitter, please do so! My goals for this upcoming year include engaging the AP-LS student members, highlighting some of your hard-earned accomplishments, and bringing relevant and exciting information about law and psychology onto our social media platforms. If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to contact me via our social media pages.

Secretary | Keisha April
I am very much looking forward to serving as your Student Committee Secretary for the 2017-2018 year.  I am a third year Clinical Psychology PhD student in the Forensic major area of study at Drexel University. As Secretary, I am responsible for recording minutes during Student Committee meetings, assisting the Chair and Chair-Elect, and helping with programming and scheduling for the annual conference. In addition, during my tenure I hope to expand on resources for minority students in the field of psychology and law and to increase the connectedness of student affiliate members with AP-LS. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me at ka586@drexel.edu.

Past Chair | Emily Haney-Caron
I enjoyed serving as Student Committee Chair last year, and I’m glad to stick around a bit in the Past-Chair role for 2017-2018! I am a 7th-year student in the JD/PhD Program at Drexel University co-mentored by Dr. Naomi Goldstein and Dr. Dave DeMatteo. I completed my MS and JD at Drexel and am now completing my clinical psychology internship in the juvenile justice/behavioral health concentration at Brown University Alpert Medical School. During my tenure as Chair in the 2016-2017 term, I oversaw Student Committee programming at AP-LS 2017 and the 2017 APA Convention including a legal pre-conference student workshop, panels on bridging the gap between psychology and the law, Student Committee socials, and the AP-LS 5K Fun Run. I also worked to do the behind-the-scenes stuff needed to support the rest of the Committee in implementing their ideas. Finally, I undertook a revision of the Student Committee by-laws so they better reflect current projects and policies. I look forward to seeing the amazing programming the 2017-2018 Student Committee will develop under Amanda’s leadership!
