Who is eligible?
All candidates must be: (a) continuously enrolled as a graduate student in pursuit of a terminal degree for the length of the term; and (b) a current Student Affiliate of the American Psychology-Law Society at the time of the election. Member at large positions have additional eligibility requirements, described below.
For full descriptions of these positions and requirements for each, please see our bylaws.
- Candidates for the Chair-Elect position must have an expected graduation date of at least three years from now. Chair-elect is a three-year position (year one as chair-elect; year two as chair; and year three as past-chair).
- Candidates for the Member-at-Large/Liaison positions must be enrolled through the academic year of the term in office in a graduate program consistent with the Liaison role: for Clinical Liaison, a graduate program (e.g., MA, MS, PsyD, or PhD) in clinical, counseling, or school psychology; for Experimental Liaison, a graduate program (e.g., MA, MS, or PhD) in experimental psychology (i.e., a non-clinical, research-focused degree program); and for Law Liaison, a graduate program (e.g., JD, JD/PhD, JD/PsyD, JD/MLS, JD/MA, LLM, MLS, or MSL) in legal studies. Determination of whether a nominee meets the requirements of a particular liaison position will be made by the Chair and Chair-Elect prior to elections, with the Past-Chair breaking any ties.
- Candidates for the Diversity Liaison position must identify with a group that is or has historically been under-represented in AP-LS leadership. Upon review of the responses to the membership survey, the Student Committee has decided that racial and ethnic minority students, non-cisgender students, and student with disabilities are perceived to be and experience exclusion from leadership positions in AP-LS. Members of other under-represented groups are welcome to run for the position but the Student Committee strongly encourages racial, ethnic, or non-cisgender students, or students with disabilities to run for this position.
For full descriptions of these positions and requirements for each, please see our bylaws.
